FAQs

Are your products safe for kids ?

Yes! All our products are made with certified natural and certified organic ingredients. We do not use any chemicals, fragrances, synthetics or dyes, so they are great for kiddos with allergies as well. They don’t run or sting the eyes either. Our Baby + Kids products are specifically formulated for kids with limited, gentle ingredients. We do suggest consulting your doctor for kids under 6 months.

Are your products safe to use while pregnant/nursing ?

Yes, our sunscreen is safe to use while breastfeeding. All our ingredients are either certified organic or certified natural (because they don't offer organics certifications on all ingredients). Our active ingredient is 23% non-nano zinc oxide, which is the only blocker that does not absorb into the skin/bloodstream (it actually stays on top of the skin and reflects the UV rays). The rest of the ingredients in our sunscreens contain antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and extracts that moisturize and continue protecting your skin after sun exposure.

What does “reef safe” mean ?

Many sunscreens contain ingredients that wash off our bodies and kill coral reefs. Using a “reef safe” sunscreen means that no ingredients in that product will cause harm to the reefs or any other marine life. To learn more on this topic, click here.

Why do you use non-nano zinc oxide and what does that mean ?

“Nano” refers to the size of a particle. Nano-size particles are small enough to enter the bloodstream, whereas a non-nano size particle will not. Here are the many reasons we use non-nano zinc oxide as our only active ingredient:
- Sits on top of the skin, creating a physical barrier that both reflects UV rays away from the skin and effectively blocks UVA1, UVA2 and UVB rays. It does not absorb into living skin cells.
- The only FDA approved Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB Protection ingredient
- EWG’s first choice for sun protection
- Stable in sunlight and won’t degrade or lose potency over time
- Does not produce skin sensitivities and rashes nor does it initiate the creation of free radicals or hormone disruptors
- The only reef safe active ingredient

What does “broad spectrum” mean ?

This means that the sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

How much sunscreen do I need ?

Apply enough to leave an even, visible film over the desired coverage area, then rub in until you get the desired look. According to the FDA, an adult wearing only shorts must use one full ounce of sunscreen per application to cover their body properly. Approximately a teaspoon size amount is needed to adequately protect the face, ears and neck. Using less than the correct amount drastically reduces the sunscreen’s ability to protect the skin and the SPF claim will not be met.

How often should I apply sunscreen ?

Apply sunscreen 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply at least every 2 hours. If you are swimming or sweating, you should reapply after 80 minutes.

What’s the best way to remove your sunscreen ?

Our Moisturizing Daily Scrub does a great job of removing our sunscreen, moisturizing and hydrating your skin. Then, us our Revitalizing Skin Tonic to revive and replenish after a day in the sun. We have a great combo pack of the two available as well.

Are your products gluten free ?

Yes! Our Vitamin E is derived from non-GMO sunflower seed oil.

Are your products vegan ?

In the majority of our products, the only ingredient not considered vegan is beeswax, which is a bee product. It is removed from the hive in a way that neither the bees nor the hive are harmed. Some people do consider this to be an animal derivative and others do not. In the Pink Lip Shimmer product there is one ingredient that makes up .14% of the product that is not vegan. We are actively reformulating, sourcing a vegan replacement for this.

Does your sunscreen leave skin white ?

No (which is awesome)! When you first put it on, you should apply enough to leave an even, visible film over the desired coverage area. You can leave it like that or easily rub it in. We also have tinted versions of our products that do not go on white.

Does your sunscreen sting the eyes ?

Nope! Our sunscreens don’t run or sting eyes, so you can hit the waves, slopes or trails without worrying.

Are your sunscreens water proof or resistant ?

Yup! Brian created our products to keep up with the most extreme athletes. There is no water in any of our sunscreens. All our sunscreens are water resistant up to 80 minutes, but we do suggest reapplying after swimming, excessive sweating and towel drying. Our Face Stick SPF 30 and Tinted Face Stick SPF 30 are great if you’re on the go, you can even apply them under water!

Are sunscreen chemicals harmful ?

There are a ton of chemicals and ingredients (both active and inactive) that are bad for us and the environment. Some of the most popular are oxybenzone, avobenzone, octinoxate, ethylhexly methoxycinnamate, homosalate, octisalate, octocrylene. They can cause harm from killing corals to causing reproductive issues.

Do your products contain soy ?

Nope! They are soy-free.

Are there fragrances and preservatives in your products ?

No! We don’t use any fragrances, preservatives or any other “bad stuff.” To learn more about the ingredients in our products, click here.

What is the shelf life of your products ?

Our products are good for 2 years from the date they were manufactured. All expiration dates can be found on the product labels.

Are your products made in a factory that is nut free ?

Yes, all our products are made in a nut free facility.

Can I only use the Tinted Face Moisturizer for the face ?

No, you don’t have to limit yourself to just your face. The iron oxides give it some extra moisturizing properties that the rest of your body can benefit from as well.

Is your sunscreen organic ?

95% of the ingredients in our products are organic, the other 5% are certified natural. Click here to learn more about our ingredients.

Why do you leave a bit of space in the tube ?

One of the biggest challenges with natural sunscreen tubes is the lack of room to knead and shake the formula well.  We specifically designed our tubes and fill to address this problem, allowing shaking and kneading to be much easier.  Also, in the event that the product passes through heavy heat or cold, the room to knead will easily address any minor oil separation that may occur.

Do you sell wholesale ?

Yup! Click here to get more info.

Why does it cost more to ship the tonic and scrub than your spf products ?

As we move away from plastics, we crafted both of these products in glass jars and larger volumes, which makes them heavier and more fragile than our sunscreens. They must ship in a box, whereas our sunscreens can ship in an envelope. We have also made the switch to plastic-free, green packaging to further reduce our use of plastics.
